Chimpanzee Trekking

With an estimated 5,000 Chimpanzee living in the wild, Uganda brings visitors in search of mans closest relative.  No scientific expertise is required to distinguish between the individual pants, hoot, and screams that define the different member of the troop.

Kibale Forest is the preferred location for Chimp Trekking.  Good Chimp Treks are also offered in Budongo Forest, Kyambura Gorge in Queen Elisabeth National Park, and on Ngamba Island which is a rehabilitation center for rescued and injured chimps.

Chimp permits are usually readily available, yet it is advised to book in advance in July and August when there are larger numbers of tourists in the parks.  Permits cost between $50 and $200 per person.
